Chemistry degree job opportunities - Ellabell, Georgia - West Penn Testing Group

I am an HR Specialist at West Penn Testing Group.  West Penn Testing Group has worked with GA Tech before with our NDT Inspector Trainee Opportunities, and we are now looking for a more specialized candidate for our Etch Inspector Position.

At West Penn Testing Group in Ellabell, GA, we are looking to hire a sharp, strong Etch Inspector with a Chemistry Degree and background as soon as possible! We are an industrial facility, and require candidates to be able to do heavy lifting (about 50 pounds), and have a strong chemistry background.  The Etch Inspector Position starts with 3-6 months of on the job training, and is an excellent career with a lot of room for growth and development within the company.

At West Penn Testing Group, we aim to select candidates who will truly make a career out of Etch Inspecting with West Penn Testing Group. Loyalty and dedication are some of our pillars. Candidates must have a strong math and chemical skillset, including the ability to work with fractions and measurements, along with a technical/handiwork type of background.  They would be expected to lift about 50 pounds, be trained to operate cranes, computers, testing equipment, etc.
The shifts are 8 hours Monday-Friday. Daylight and the training shift is 7 AM – 3 PM. Afternoon shift is 3 PM – 11 PM.  Evening shift is 11 PM – 7 AM, but it may not be applicable at the Ellabell facility yet.  Overtime is offered to the people with the most seniority, and the best workers.

DEPARTMENT: Etch Inspecting

INTRA-DEPARTMENTAL COORDINATION:
Reports to: Etch Inspector Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Etch Inspector Trainee is responsible for doing etch inspections.


RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:
1. Carry out the etch process
2. Interpret macrotech results
3. Safely handle all acids and alkaline solutions
4. Build solutions and make additions as needed.
5. Follow written instructions in the macroetch process.
6. Process parts competently through the etch process and understand when a solution is not functioning properly.
7. Keep detailed records of temperatures, pH values and conductivity readings of etch solutions.
8. Trainees will be asked to perform other ancillary duties as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. 2 or 4 year Chemistry degree required.
2. Training or experience with etches inspecting or a chemistry background is preferred.
3. Must be able to pass a visual acuity test.

1. Possess a strong work ethic and high level of integrity
2. Possesses good communication, organizational and observational skills.
3. Proficient problem solving skills with good judgment and decision making.

Project descriptions

Body fluid identification - DFSC is working with a university and a company to validate protocols for determining body fluid identity using mRNA and high resolution melt. The RA will collect mRNA, make cDNA, and perform high resolution melt experiments.

NOCIt validation - A software system to determine the number of contributors in a DNA mixture has been developed for DFSC. The RA will assess the software system and compare it's results to results obtained from a DNA casework examiner.

Extract concentration - DFSC receives large pieces of evidence that require multiple reaction tubes to complete the DNA extraction. The RA will increase incubation volume for extraction and then concentrate to the volume required for traditional EZ1 large volume extraction.

Shoe outsole comparison - A major way shoes are manufactured is by a calendaring and cutting process.  A certain class characteristic from a random area selected on the calendared material in itself is not very discriminatory, but when two of these calendared materials are cut and placed over one another, the orientations of these repetitive characteristics may be substantially more discriminatory. The RA will make impressions and compare outsole characteristics between samples.

Testing of latent print superglue process - The RA will test, compare, and evaluate available commercial off the shelf one-step superglue processes and compare the quality to the traditional two-step process

The EPA Environmental Research and Business Support Program has an immediate opening for a Data Analyst position with the Office of Research and Development at the EPA facility in Cincinnati, OH. The Sustainable Technology Division of the National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL) within The Office of Research and Development (ORD) at EPA develops and designs technologies and methodologies that provide sustainable solutions to environmental problems.  The selected candidate shall assist researchers in the Life Cycle Assessment Center for Excellence in preparation and analysis of large datasets (100,000+ records) for use in life cycle assessment. He/she will have the opportunity to work with experienced scientists and engineers on multiple projects in a fast-growing area of environmental research.

Folding Protein Ions in the Gas-Phase

The structure and folding of a protein in solution depends on noncovalent interactions within the protein and those with surrounding ions and molecules. Decoupling these interactions in solution is challenging, which has hindered the development of accurate physics-based models for structure prediction. Investigations of proteins in the gas phase can be used to selectively decouple factors affecting the structures of proteins. Here, we use cation-to-anion proton-transfer reactions (CAPTR) to reduce the charge states of denatured ubiquitin ions in the gas phase, and ion mobility to probe their structures. In CAPTR, a precursor charge state is selected and reacted with monoanions to generate charge-reduced product ions. Following each CAPTR event, denatured ubiquitin ions (13+ to 6+) yield products that rapidly isomerize to structures that have smaller collision cross sections. We also show similar results for poly-ubiquitin ions and use coarse grain modeling to establish possible structures. These results show that CAPTR strongly complements existing techniques for characterizing the structures and dynamics of biological molecules in the gas phase.
