Co-op or Internship at FAI Materials Testing - Marietta

A small lab up in Marietta is looking for either co-op students or students looking for an internship or part-time work starting January.

FAI Materials Testing is looking for a smart and capable student with a pleasant temperament who is willing to take on projects related to material and chemical testing. The position is flexible and can work around the student's schedule and is a paid position. The lab focuses on testing of materials brought in by clients and would require some technical know-how of physical testing, chemical analysis, microscopy use, DSC, TGA and more. The ideal student can start in January and it is not required to have extensive experience, just needs to be motivated, willing to learn and can work with little to no supervision. SMART Scholarship Program - DoD 2011

I write to make you aware of a tremendous scholarship-for-service opportunity for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students and to request that you encourage your best students to apply to the SMART Scholarship Program. This is a highly-selective, prestigious, national program that fully supports their education, including full tuition, a very generous stipend, book allowance, and Summer internship, while they are in school, and then provides guaranteed employment with the Defense Department upon graduation.

The Science, Mathematics, And Research for Transformation (SMART) scholarship-for-service Program fully funds undergraduate and graduate degrees in a wide range of technical areas, including all fields of engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Brain and Cognitive Sciences, and Mathematics.

A SMART brochure and a poster are attached and the application web page is at www.asee.org/SMART. The application deadline is December 1, 2011 for the 2012 school year. SMART provides:

· Full Tuition – to any accredited U.S. University
· A very generous stipend while in school
- $25,000 for undergraduates
- $33,000 for masters candidates
- $36,300 to $41,800 for doctoral candidates
· Book allowance – $1,000
· Health Insurance
· Paid Summer internships
· All required student fees
· Travel for internships

Summer internships at Labs are required. In return for fully funding their education, students are required work as a civilian employee at a Service (Army, Navy, Air Force) or DoD Agency (NSA, DIA, DARPA, etc.) laboratory, or other research and development activity for a period equal to the time the program paid for their school. Students must be U.S. Citizens, able to obtain a DoD Security Clearance, and be willing to work as a civilian in the DoD upon graduation.

Summer Research in German - 2012

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is pleased to announce that for summer 2012 we will again offer three internship programs: RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering), RISE professional and RISE worldwide. RISE has established itself as an outstanding opportunity to combine serious research with a rewarding study-abroad experience. All three programs are targeted to students from the fields of engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, earth sciences (geology) and related disciplines.

RISE undergrads have the opportunity to work on cutting edge research projects at top research institutions (e.g., Max-Planck-Institutes) and universities in Germany. Students are paired with German PhD students in a unique mentoring partnership to ensure immediate integration into hands-on lab work and a built-in social network with an excellent opportunity to develop new technical skills. RISE professional is designed for recent graduates, Master's and PhD students, and alumni of the RISE program who are matched with a well-known German company, where they gain insight into the professional applications of science and engineering and develop practical skills. Internships can last from one-and-a-half to six months. Similar to RISE, this program features a scholarship to cover living expenses. Online registration is currently available. Online registration and the internship database for RISE and RISE professional open on December 6th. The application deadline for both programs is January 31, 2012.



Also continuing this year is RISE worldwide. German students in the early stages of their studies who have the ambition to work abroad and gain hands-on research experience in their fields will be matched with researchers worldwide who wish to engage in a meaningful cooperation with a young German scholar. These German interns receive a DAAD scholarship to help cover living expenses and travel costs. Participating hosts receive invaluable assistance with their own work-they profit both professionally and personally from contact with the intern, having the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the culture, lifestyle and higher education system in Germany.



Research groups interested in hosting a German research assistant in the summer of 2012 are invited to participate in RISE worldwide and to submit project proposals at:
