NOBCChE National Conference 2017

The National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE) is hosting our national conference at the Radisson Blu and Marriott in Downtown Minneapolis, MN from Oct 30th to Nov 3rd. 

The theme for our 44th Annual conference is  “We are NOBCChE: Community, Leadership, & Partnerships”. This conference is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate, graduate students, and post docs (and faculty)! NOBCChE takes pride in building a community of scholars who are leaders in every endeavor.  

We encourage you to invite your students to submit an abstract and apply for a conference grant.  Through the generous support of our corporate sponsors we are able to provide twice as many scholarships this year.  The conference is a great chance for your students to present their work and begin preparing for the next chapter in their lives.

Hello Again from Health Connect South!

   As we rapidly approach Health Connect South 2015 on September 16th we want to be certain that Georgia Tech students are represented in force. We will be highlighting students’ involvement in our Student panel presentations and introducing students to speakers and presenting groups. As we rapidly approach our upcoming conference we want to be certain that Georgia Tech students are represented in force. We will be highlighting students’ involvement in our Student panel presentations and introducing students to speakers and presenting groups. This conference will also be the launch of our online Networking application The Connector which will only be available to attendees, we hope to engage students to connect them with mentors throughout the year. 

    Keynote presentations regarding health challenges and checkpoints will be given by luminaries such as Dr. Tom Frieden, Director of the CDC, Dr. Louis Sullivan, Former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, Gary Reedy, CEO of the American Cancer Society, Ambassador Mary Ann Peters, CEO of the Carter Center, and Dr. Ian Crozier the American Physician famous for his fight against Ebola.

    Discussions will focus on collaborations in health care, with keynote speakers discussing the collaborative response to the Ebola outbreak and collaborative efforts in the fight against cancer. We will also be featuring three panels focused on students including innovative research and start up companies.

We are always looking for volunteers and are still looking for volunteers on the day of the event. 9th Annual Pre-Health Conference on March 7, 2015

The Georgia Tech Chapter of the American Medical School Association (AMSA) is pleased to invite you to the 9th Annual Pre-Health Conference on March 7, 2015 in Klaus Computing Building. We are excited to welcome Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, President, Morehouse School of Medicine, as our keynote speaker. She is the first female president of Morehouse School of Medicine and a Georgia Tech alumni.

The conference will be packed with amazing seminars and workshops such as: “Admissions Panel,” “Life of a Health Profession Student” and “Start-ups and Entrepreneurship in Medicine.”

Additionally, we will be hosting medical (MD and DO), dentistry, pharmacy, PA, PT, nursing and others from across the country. 2014 Herty Medalist Undergraduate Research Symposium

On September 5th from 1 - 5 pm in the afternoon, the Department of Chemistry at Morehouse College & the Georgia Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) will once again come together to present the 9th Annual Herty Medal Undergraduate Research Symposium (HMURS).  As you may remember from previous years, the Herty Medal is awarded annually by the Georgia Local Section to give public recognition to the work and service of outstanding chemists who have significantly contributed to their chosen fields.  This year's recipient is Dr. Luigi G. Marzilli, William White Tison Professor of Chemistry and Chair, Department of Chemistry at Louisiana State University.  As in years past, Morehouse College is again proud to host this event, specific details about which are available online at:

As both chair and a member of the planning committee for this annual event, I am writing to you to invite you to this event as well as to ask that you forward/announce this invitation to all undergraduate students who have done or are planning to undertake undergraduate research experiences.  Since HMURS will include several lectures aimed at undergraduates from professionals in the field, this event serves as an ideal venue for them to be inspired toward careers in chemistry and the related sciences.  In particular, students who have performed research (i.e. with you, a colleague, or even as part of a summer research program) should be strongly encouraged to present posters as there is no registration fee for this event.  In addition, the top poster presenter(s) will be selected for a $500 travel grant to be applied towards attending an ACS National Meeting.  (The upcoming meeting of ACS in Spring 2015 will be held in Denver, CO).  As well, several poster presenters will be awarded one-year student memberships in the ACS.  Attached to this message, you will find a flyer announcing details about this event for posting/further dissemination amongst your departmental colleagues and students.

ACS Southeast Undergraduate Research Conference

We would like to invite your undergraduate students to attend the 44th Annual ACS Southeast Undergraduate Research Conference (SURC). The meeting is being hosted by the Department of Chemistry at Mississippi State University and the Mississippi Chapter ofthe ACS. The 2012 Conference will be held April 12 and 13 in Starkville Mississippi. Students will have an opportunity to give an oral presentation or a poster and toattend a Keynote Lecture and Awards Banquette. Monetary awards will be given to the two best presentations and posters in each of the five areas of chemistry. Graduate recruiting booths will be available all day on Friday April 13. Abstracts are due by March 21, 2012. Additional information regarding registration, accommodations, and abstract submission will be available after January 9 at chemistry.msstate.edu/conference/surc.

2011 Georgia Tech Global Leadership Conference.

My name is Yash Ghogre and I am serving as the co-conference chair for the 2011 Georgia Tech Global Leadership Conference. The Global Leadership Conference is a project I undertook last year with the objective to equip Georgia Tech students with the skills to be successful in the global world and provide a forum for topics such as cross cultural communication. Georgia Tech has been a leader in contributing to the dynamic nature of the community by being listed as one of the nation’s top institutions that award engineering , physical science, and architecture degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral level to all minority students including African Americans, Hispanics, and Asian Americans, by “Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.” As great as this diverse campus is, more can be done to unify the Georgia Tech community and we hope that this conference takes a step towards that objective. Currently, the conference is scheduled to be on Saturday, April 9th starting at 10:00 am.

I believe that this conference is a platform for members of your organization to engage in some of the values that Georgia Tech wants its students to experience. Some of the key features of the conference are:

Pittcon 2011

Pittcon (http://www.pittcon.org/) is the world's annual premier Conference and Exposition on laboratory science. It is organized by The Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy, a Pennsylvania not-for-profit educational corporation which is comprised of the Spectroscopy Society of Pittsburgh (SSP) and the Society for Analytical Chemists of Pittsburgh (SACP).

Pittcon attracts nearly 20,000 attendees from industry, academia and government from 90 countries worldwide and is managed by a committee of volunteers and a 10-person staff. Proceeds from Pittcon fund science education and outreach at all levels, kindergarten through adult.

The organizing committee is looking for some student aides (graduate students or undergraduates) to assist with Pittcon 2011 over a few days (at the students’ convenience) during Conference Week.

In return for working at least two days for approximately four hours per day, students aides will be eligible for:

Free short courses
All the excellent educational and networking opportunities that Pittcon has to offer!
In return for recommending some students, you, as a faculty member, will be eligible for free registration at the Conference.

Students need to be available to work four hours for at least two days of the Conference (Sat. March 12th, Sun. March 13th, Mon. March 14th, or Thurs. March 17th -- these are the dates on which we have needs).

Herty Medal Undergraduate Research Symposium

On September 17th, the Georgia Section of the ACS will be staging the
fifth Herty Medal Undergraduate Research Symposium (HMURS) to be held at
Morehouse College from 1:00PM to 5:00PM. The details are available at:

Southeast Enzyme Conference
