Love science? Interested in research? You should think about joining a new
club on campus, iGEM. It is a research club focused on an international
synthetic biology competition called iGEM, which stands for International
Genetically Engineered Machines. It is a yearly competition that usually
consists of a regional competition. Upon advancement from the regional
competition, there is then an international competition. Each team is given
biological parts and new parts of their own design to build biological systems
and operate them in living cells. In the past, Georgia Tech has had a very small
team, but we want to expand this team and become a club on campus so that more
people can participate. Our project this year involves engineering bacteria to
convert methane to methanol to decrease methane emissions near fracking
activity. You can learn more about the club and our project at our meeting this
Wednesday at 7:00 pm in Klaus 2447. There will be free food provided, so come
out and enjoy!
