MSE Spring 2016 UG research assitantship available

I am a graduate student in Materials Science & Engineering and member of Dr. Gleb Yushin’s research group.  I wish to advertise undergraduate research assistant positions, as described below.  The projects will involve a fair amount of chemical synthesis and electrochemical characterization, and hence are a good fit for undergraduate Chemistry students.  Can you please forward the opportunity below to undergraduate students in your department?

Thank you,

The Yushin Nanotechnology Laboratory seeks undergraduate research assistants to help develop an aqueous rechargeable lithium ion battery.  The students will work under the close guidance of a senior PhD student.  Some of the promising benefits of aqueous electrolytes for lithium ion batteries include their very high ionic conductivity for fast charging and discharging, safety and environmental friendliness, if the electrode stability can be improved and electrolysis of water avoided.   We have recently explored the impacts of aqueous electrolyte composition (salt type, salt concentration, pH, etc.) on the electrochemical behavior of several different intercalation compounds, and demonstrated that excellent cycle stability can be achieved with particular electrolyte compositions.  Building off of this success, we now aim to demonstrate stable cycling of electrode materials with higher and lower electrode potentials in order to construct a high voltage battery.  Candidates must be very highly motivated, have excellent academic records and have strong problem-solving skills.  Please e-mail daniel.gordon@gatech.edu to arrange an interview.
