Program Description
A fellowship opportunity is currently available at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH), in Region IX, San Francisco, California.
The Office of the Regional Health Administrator supports the priorities and initiatives of the Secretary for Health, Assistant Secretary for Health, and the OASH Program Offices. ORISE Fellows have a unique opportunity to lead public health activities, develop expertise in a variety of prevention-focused public health issues, and receive professional development from Regional Health Administrators who are senior-level public health officials. They support cross-cutting HHS and OASH prevention efforts, with a focus on chronic disease prevention and health promotion activities.
This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and HHS. The initial appointment is through September 2017, but may be renewed upon recommendation of HHS contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at HHS in Region IX, San Francisco, California area. Participants do not become employees of HHS or the program administrator, and there are no fringe benefits paid.
Qualifications
Applicants do not have a citizenship requirement but must be at least 18 years of age at the time of the appointment.
- * A master’s or doctoral degree in public health within the last 60 months and familiarity with the San Francisco, California bay area and Region IX are strongly preferred.
- * A master’s or doctoral degree in a science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) field received within the last 60 months and familiarity with the San Francisco, California bay area and Region IX will be considered.
