Georgia Pacific co-op position - 2011

Georgia Pacific will be at GT March 7 for interviews and interested candidates should submit their resume through Georgia Tech career website. These is also a posting for undergrad co-ops on the Gatech co-op website.

Pay range would be between $17.50-20.00 per hour.

This position is a Research and Development position. Coops will be responsible for leading small projects, working under the technical guidance and mentorship of the R&D team. Assignments will provide an opportunity to solve real world technical product and process development problems with the intent to innovate and improve GP’s market leadership. The assignments are intended to leverage the fresh and creative thinking the Co-op would bring to the program in addition to giving GP an opportunity to work with and mentor the Coops as the progress in their career aspirations to become successful professionals. In the long term we hope that this opportunity will give us the comparative advantage of attracting and retaining top talent as we innovate towards sustained market leadership.

Requirements
Education: Currently enrolled in Chemical Engineering, Civil engineering, and advanced chemistry curriculum.
GPA >3.2
Skills: Strong initiative to support research & development activities with GP-Gypsum in the building science arena. Ability to both lead and support one or two individual projects and work in a team environment. Proficiency in statistical analysis, graphical methods and presentation skills.
Knowledge: Fundamental engineering and science expertise, basic experimental design, data analysis, and working knowledge of laboratory equipment,
Attributes: Required: Communication skills; team player; leadership; planning and organizing; motivated to take on challenging projects. Desired: Able to work with hand and power tools and build full size test panels for testing.

Job Responsibilities: Assist engineers/scientists in technical support and research projects:
• Function as a part of various project teams to help identify, formulate, and solve problems
• Design and conduct experiments, as well as analyze and interpret data
• Process tracking and report generation as needed for projects.
• Improving equipment and instrument accuracy and reliability.
• Generating and updating test procedures & drawings as needed.
• Integrate classroom knowledge to take on increase responsibility and in turn increase value.
• Informal and formal project presentations as required.

Job Expectations: Coops should expect to learn the following:
• Utilize their knowledge/skills to contribute to GP as well as gain experience in an industrial setting
• Gain R&D experience in the area of building science working with a talented technology group at GP
• Gain work experience related to Gypsum Manufacturing and Product performance.
