CEISMIC KIDS club instructors needed -STEM

Georgia Tech's Center for Education Integrating, Science, Mathematics, and
Computing (CEISMC) is looking for knowledgeable instructors for the
2011-2012 K.I.D.S. Club meetings.

K.I.D.S. Club is a program in which hundreds of students in grades 2-5 visit
the Georgia Tech campus on Saturdays to participate in hands-on science,
technology, engineering or math (STEM) activities. This program is designed
to develop students' interest and passion for STEM learning.

If you are interested in sharing your expertise and love of STEM concepts,
CEISMC would love to have you participate in our program as an instructor.

Each year, dozens of GT faculty/students and K-12 teachers work with
K.I.D.S. Club members to share their fascinating field of interest and help
them better understand the world in which we live. As an instructor, you
will design your own 55-minute hands-on activity to share with club members.
The staff at CEISMC can help you shape your idea into a fun, interesting
experience for students, and we encourage you to visit our instructor
website for more details.

http://ceismc.gatech.edu/kidsclub/instructor-resources

Instructors must commit to both Saturdays in the Fall or Spring season, or
you may instruct all 4 Saturdays if you would like. Instructors will
receive compensation for their time at K.I.D.S Club, $150 per Saturday
taught. The Fall sessions will take place on Saturday, November 12, 2011
and Saturday, December 3, 2011. Spring sessions are scheduled for Saturday,
March 3, 2012 and Saturday, March 12, 2012. Sessions run from 9am to 12pm.

On the left side of the page you can also find frequently asked questions
with additional K.I.D.S. Club information.

We appreciate your interest, and if you have any questions, please contact
Andrew Burch with CEISMC Student Programs at andrew.burch@ceismc.gatech.edu
or

SABUR (Student Activities Board for Undergraduate Research) - Mentors Needed

Dear Advisors,

Sorry for the multiple e-mails but it was just drawn to my attention that we planned the meeting for the same time as the first football game! Please send this revised version with a later date out instead of the previous! Thank you so much!

SABUR (Student Activities Board for Undergraduate Research) will be having it's first meeting on Thursday September 8th, 7pm in Klaus room 2447. SABUR is a student organization dedicated to increasing participation in Undergraduate Research on campus and promoting a culture of research in the Georgia Tech Community. If you are involved in research or looking to get involved in research come to our first meeting and learn more about how SABUR can help you! Membership dues will be $15 for the year. There will be Free Food!

SABUR Mentoring Program- MENTORS NEEDED- SABUR facilitates a mentoring program that connects experienced undergraduate researchers with inexperienced students trying to get involved in research. Mentors will help mentees gain insight into the research culture at Tech and give valuable advice on how to obtain a research position. Also, throughout the year SABUR will host events to facilitate mentoring such as ice cream socials, coffee houses, and climbing the rock wall. If interested attend SABUR's first meeting (see above) or e-mail gt.sabur@gmail.com by September 15th. Please include your year, major, and brief description of your research experience.

Tri-Beta, Biology National Honor Society

Do you like meeting new people while enhancing your resume? Do you at least like dinosaurs? Beta Beta Beta, *the* National Biology Honor Society, may be for you! Tri-Beta is currently accepting new members, and it is *not* a requirement that you be a biology student. There are actually discounted dues for non-majors. We are a well-rounded society with events that cover community service, active learning (like going behind the scenes of the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Georgia Aquarium, etc.), and building a supportive network of your peers. There are no GPA requirements for non-majors, so as long as you like biology at least a little and are ready to be part of an honor society that actually does things…join us! First general meeting: Thursday, September 1st, 11:05-11:45AM. ES&T, room L1105. Involvement Fair (if you want to stop by and ask questions): Wednesday, August 31st, 10:30AM-1:30PM. Join the Computational Structural Biology VIP Team!

Physics and Chemistry Majors

Needed for a Real-World Project

Join the Computational Structural Biology VIP Team!
The VIP Team needs you if you are interested in any of the following:
• Thermodynamics and/or statistical mechanics
• Macromolecular structure and function
• Computer simulations and/or programming
• Classical mechanics
• Web page design and maintenance

Computer simulations on biological macromolecules are critical components of efforts at
understanding structure-function relationships, and for structure-based molecular
design. The Computational Structure Biology VIP Team (VP6) is developing web-based
tutorials to facilitate the understanding of basic principles of macromolecular simulations
and the applications of such simulations to problems in structural biology.

The tools developed by the VIP Team will be the core of a new text in Computational
Structural Biology. They will be used by students in molecular modeling courses, and by
individuals who are learning simulation methods through independent study.

Students register for one or two credit hours each semester in PHYS, BIOL, CS or ECE
courses listed at the 2000, 3000 or 4000 level. Team meetings are Tuesdays, 9:35–
10:55 am in Klaus 1440. To learn more about VIP and to apply to join this team, go the
VIP website (http://vip.gatech.edu/). If you have questions, come to the first meeting or

contact Dr. Steve Harvey (steve.harvey@biology.gatech.edu).
