Sample Preparatory Chemist

The Division of Laboratory Science (DLS) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently seeking recent graduates (B.S. in chemistry, biology and biochemistry) for a laboratory research fellowship position (1-3 yr term) in Atlanta, Georgia. Candidates should be within 5 years after obtaining their degree, have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and have strong laboratory skills. This position is located in the Organic Analytical Toxicology Branch/Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons-Hemoglobin Adducts group. The position would involve but not limited to (1) the development of analytical methods using protein precipitation techniques, solid phase and liquid extractions and gas chromatography (GC-MS) for the analysis of polyaromatic metabolites in blood matrixes (2) preparation of standards, buffers, and stock solutions; (3.) laboratory maintenance including ordering laboratory supplies, maintaining weekly eyewash log, maintaining daily freezer and chemical temperature logs, calibration and maintenance of all laboratory equipment, preparing chemical and hazardous waste for pick-up, and following quality assurance guidelines and laboratory safety procedures according to CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act) guidelines.
